Readings for Independent Voters
|

The purpose of this site is to provide a public repository for information and documents that have influenced
the early development of our republic. Documents will be presented in .pdf format. Modern authors,
politicians and media will not be found here. The idea is to allow exploring of the original documents and the
original writings of persons living during the early formation of the nation. I have chosen the period of pre-
1776 to 1850 to include some of the early leaders who implemented and developed the government after the
Constitution was ratified. There is no intention to take any side in the possible interpretations of issues
relating to these documents and sources from all sides are made available wherever possible. All of these
documents and writings are in the public domain and are available elsewhere on the Internet. My purpose
was simply to organize them into one site so that the reader can study all pertinent philosophies. The reader
should then explore these documents and writings and develop their own political stance. That is what
freedom is about!
The forum for this site is located at the link below. The forum is for questions and discussions about the
source material on the site. It is not for discussions of the current political situation, nor to espouse either of
the current political parties. All viewpoints are welcome as long as they reflect the forming of the original
government and not current political trends. Do not reference any current media or authors expressing a
modern viewpoint. Our purpose is to understand the viewpoint of the nation’s founders. It is recommended
that you read the first four items on the Recommended Reading List before getting too involved in the
forum.

These links will give you more documents from the nation-forming period. These are all public domain sites and
are excellent for in-depth research.
